Woodside Energy is shipping a shipment of approximately 75,000 tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe for Uniper.

An expected delivery

Woodside Energy announces shipment of LNG cargo. Delivery is made by the Woodside Rees Withers vessel from the northwestern shelf of Australia. The delivery takes place at the Gate Terminal located on Maasvlakte in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The cargo will contribute to the supply of natural gas to northwest and central Europe. The Woodside Energy transaction comes at a time when Europe is in urgent need of LNG. Mark Abbotsford, Woodside’s executive vice president of marketing and trading, says:

“The events of 2022 have shown that the world cannot take for granted a reliable and affordable supply of energy, especially as we work to decarbonize. In such circumstances, it is more important than ever that buyers and sellers work together to respond flexibly to market dynamics. Our relationship with Uniper is an example of this cooperation. The delivery of a cargo of LNG from the North West Shelf to Europe also highlights the role that Australian LNG can play in global energy security.”

Strategic sourcing

European countries are looking for alternative sources of gas to replace supplies from Russia. Andreas Gemballa,Uniper‘s head of LNG, says:

“We continue to work to secure gas supplies to Europe gas in Europe from reliable sources such as Australia, helping to enhance security of supply during the current crisis triggered by the Russian war.”

In addition to this contract, Germany plans to commission floating storage and regasification units. Thus, the country is building floating LNG terminals like in Stade and Lubmin. In addition, the country is placing various orders to feed the existing regasification capacities.
