TotalEnergies, through its subsidiary Offshore Wind One GmbH, has acquired marine concession N-11.2 awarded by the German Federal Grid Agency. The project will see the development of a 1.5GW offshore wind farm covering 156 square kilometers, 120 kilometers northwest of the German Heligoland archipelago.
This concession is in addition to the 2GW obtained last year, bringing total capacity to 3.5GW. This expansion strengthens TotalEnergies ‘ presence in the offshore wind sector in Germany, and leverages operational synergies between the two sites. As a result, the French company is expanding its investment in the North Sea.

Investments and Financial Commitments

Offshore Wind One GmbH will pay €196 million to the German federal government by June 2025, earmarked for various environmental projects. In addition to this initial payment, an annual fee of 88 million euros will be paid over 20 years to the Transmission System Operator for the connection of the project, as soon as it is commissioned.
The concession period is 25 years, with an option to extend to 35 years, providing long-term stability for project development.

Energy Strategy and Synergies

Stéphane Michel, Managing Director Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, said, “This new concession, combined with last year’s, will create a 3.5GW offshore wind cluster, optimizing synergies between the two sites.” This project is part of TotalEnergies’ strategy to strengthen its position in the German offshore wind market.
TotalEnergies’ gross renewable electricity generation capacity stands at 22GW at the end of 2023, with a target of 35GW by 2025. This North Sea project represents a key step towards achieving these ambitious goals.

Perspectives and Global Development

TotalEnergies has a portfolio of offshore wind projects with a total capacity of over 16GW. These projects are located in various countries, including the UK, South Korea, Taiwan, France, the USA and Germany. The development of the N-11.2 concession is part of a dynamic of continuous growth and geographical diversification, reinforcing TotalEnergies’ position as a key player in the offshore wind energy sector.
