TotalEnergies has signed an agreement to extend its partnership with Oman LNG, an Omani joint venture specializing in LNG development. The Group holds a 5.54% stake in Oman LNG. Located on the northeast coast of Oman, the Oman LNG liquefaction complex has a production capacity of 7.6 million metric tons of LNG per year (Mtpa). Adjacent to Oman LNG is the Qalhat LNG plant, with a production capacity of 3.8 Mtpa, in which Oman LNG also has a stake. Combining these two facilities, the site’s total production reaches 11.4 Mtpa.

LNG Production Capacity in Oman

The Oman LNG liquefaction complex is one of the key players in Oman’s LNG production. With a capacity of 7.6 Mtpa, it plays a vital role in LNG supply to international markets. The Qalhat LNG plant, with its capacity of 3.8 Mtpa, also makes a significant contribution to this supply.

Extension of Partnerships with Oman: Details of the Agreement

TotalEnergies has decided to extend its stake in Oman LNG by 10 years, beyond 2024, and in Qalhat LNG by 5 years. This agreement goes beyond the simple extension of partnerships, as it also includes investments aimed at reducing the plant’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Investments to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The agreement between TotalEnergies and Oman is not limited to the extension of partnerships. It also includes commitments to sustainable development. Investments will be made to reduce greenhouse gas emissions generated by the plant, thus contributing to the transition towards more environmentally-friendly LNG production.

TotalEnergies on the road to significant LNG growth

TotalEnergies’ decision to expand its LNG activities in Oman is in line with its overall growth strategy. Julien Pouget, Senior Vice President Middle East and North Africa of TotalEnergies’ Exploration-Production branch, said: “This LNG contributes to our supply in Europe and Asian markets, strengthening our integrated and flexible global portfolio, in line with TotalEnergies’ ambition to increase its long-term LNG production and purchases by 50% by 2030.”

TotalEnergies is consolidating its LNG partnerships with Oman, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable production while meeting growing demand in global liquefied natural gas markets. This expansion also testifies to the mutual trust between TotalEnergies and Oman in promoting clean, high-quality energy.
