The Vattenfall Group released the results of its first Energy Saving Barometer today. The study was conducted among a representative sample of 5,000 individuals over the age of 18 in Germany, Finland, France, Sweden and the Netherlands between January 13 and 23, 2023. The objective of this barometer, which will be updated every quarter until the beginning of 2024, is to better understand the changes in energy consumer behavior over the long term, in the context of the energy price crisis.
France, the country most committed to eco-actions
The results show that energy consumers are more vigilant about saving energy compared to the previous winter season. The French are the most committed to eco-actions, regardless of the type of action taken. The most common eco-actions are reducing the use of light, cooking with a lid and lowering the temperature inside the rooms.
The French are worried about the evolution of energy prices
The French are also the most worried about the evolution of energy prices, with 94% of respondents expressing their concern on this subject. 82% believe that the trend will continue towards higher prices, despite the measures taken by the French government, notably the tariff shield. This feeling of insecurity is even more pronounced among the over-50s, who indicate that their economic situation has deteriorated.
The French want to reduce their energy bill
For 93% of the respondents, the main factor that pushes them to do eco-actions is the reduction of their energy bill. Almost 40% of French people surveyed are ready to change supplier to benefit from more competitive prices.
For Henri Reboullet, CEO of Vattenfall Energies, these results confirm the importance for energy suppliers to make their customers aware of the challenges of energy sobriety and to support them in implementing eco-actions. It also stresses that energy suppliers must regularly inform customers about the measures taken by the government to address the energy price crisis.
