Greenalia will build a new 27 MW wind farm on the Iberian Peninsula. The project will include 6 wind turbines and will be located in the municipalities of Cabana de Bergantiños, Coristanco and Santa Comba (A Coruña, Galicia). The budget for the implementation of the O Cerqueiral wind farm will amount to more than 19.5 million euros.

A project to meet the decarbonization objective

The 6 wind turbines of the O Cerqueiral wind farm will have a hub height of 111 meters and a rotor diameter of 136 meters. The wind farm is expected to produce 88,758 MWh annually, which will prevent 32,840 tons of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere each year.

The project also includes an agreement between different promoters for the processing, construction and operation of the infrastructure necessary to connect the Mesón do Vento 220 kV substation to the electrical transmission network, thus reducing the possible impacts of the evacuation lines from other projects.

Measures to limit its impact on the environment

The wind farm will be located outside of protected areas as well as priority areas for bird life, as indicated in the November 2022 Environmental Impact Statement. Field surveys did not reveal the presence of any protected species.

Measures will be put in place to minimize the impact of the wind farm on bats and birds, including the implementation of technologies to reduce collisions and the painting of one of the blades of each wind turbine. An environmental monitoring plan will also be put in place to confirm the effectiveness of these measures.

Finally, a monitoring program for the presence of the wolf will be implemented during the first year of operation of the wind farm, in order to have a better knowledge of its presence in the area.
