A significant achievement is reported in the “Project Deep Earth-Sichuan and Chongqing Natural Gas Base” project. Sinopec announces the addition of 30.55 billion cubic meters of proven geological reserves in the Bazhong gas field.

Major gas reserves discovered :

Phase I of the Bazhong gas field, part of the “Project Deep Earth-Sichuan and Chongqing Natural Gas Base” project, was marked by a major breakthrough. Sinopec, the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, has officially obtained certification for a proven geological reserve of 30.55 billion cubic meters of natural gas. This success also reveals the promising potential of compact reservoir sandstone in China’s northeastern Sichuan region.

Third compact reservoir sandstone gas field :

The Bazhong gas field is the third of its kind in the Xujiahe formation, made up of compact reservoir sandstones. This discovery reinforces Sinopec’s role in the region. To date, Sinopec has submitted a total of 154,747 million cubic meters of proven geological reserves. These reserves concern gas in compact reservoir sandstones.

Exploration challenges and solutions :

The sandstone gas reserve, buried at a depth of over 4,500 meters, is considered an ultra-deep, compact reservoir. This presents challenges for exploration and development. Sinopec responded by creating three reservoir development models. What’s more, the company has implemented high-quality methods. These methods are used to establish the sequences of reservoir forecasting techniques. High-yield zones have been identified and implemented.

Sinopec has no intention of stopping there. The company plans to continue geological evaluation and engineering processes for compact reservoir sandstone shale gas reserves in the Sichuan Basin. The aim is to further expand reserves in the Bazhong region.
