Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (Siemens Gamesa) has selected Global Wind Service (GWS) as its partner for the complete pre-assembly of the Fécamp offshore wind farm in France. The scope of the pre-assembly includes the pre-assembly of the tower components as well as the assembly of the HSBM tool on the nacelles. GWS began mobilization in February and the first ship load is expected in May.
Global Wind Service has made its mark
This award follows several successful pre-assembly projects (Fryslân wind farm in the Netherlands for 89 turbines and Greater Changhua 1 & 2a offshore wind farms for 111 turbines). “We are very pleased to be involved in this second major offshore project in France after the Saint-Nazaire offshore wind farm last year. Over the past year, we have proven that we can execute very large and complex projects, even in a relatively new offshore wind market. Our French business unit was created only a year ago, and I am really proud to see how far we have come in such a short time. Our clear goal is to continue to grow our unit and footprint in France, underlining our position as the preferred partner for offshore wind installation – also in France. To succeed, this requires the right skills and a strong local workforce – something we are very committed to. We are now looking forward to working on the Fécamp offshore wind farm, further contributing to low-carbon energy for France,” said Adrien Galinier, Area Director France at Global Wind Service.
An important but feasible project by Global Wind Service
The 497 MW wind farm will include 71 SG 7.0-154 turbines manufactured in France. The turbines will be located 13-24 kilometers off the coast of Fécamp. When completed, the wind farm will provide electricity to power 770,000 people.
Hervé Bouraima, Global Commodity Manager, Strategic Procurement, Offshore at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, said, “During our long-standing collaboration with Global Wind Service, they have proven to us time and time again that they are very capable of providing continuous high quality on our large and more complex offshore scope, whether in the Netherlands, Taiwan, the United States, and now in France. I am confident that this will be another successful project together.
