Selinus, the 25MW onshore wind farm in Sicily, the 17th to be built by RWE, will supply 22,000 Italian households with green electricity.
Promising growth
Selinus, the 17th onshore wind farm in Italy for RWE, will take shape in the fall of 2021. The project wins an Italian auction in which the Italian government grants a bilateral contract of difference (CfD). In addition, RWE is investing over €30 million in the Selinus project.
Thanks to CfD, the energy company builds and commissions the project in less than a year. The Selinus wind farm located in Sicily has a capacity of 25.2MW. In addition, it has 6 Vestas wind turbines (type V136) with a nominal power of 4.2MW. Selinus uses the blade lifting technology used for transportation and thus reduces the environmental impact.
The wind farm is difficult to access because it is surrounded by olive trees. This sustainable approach to development has minimized civil works. Katja Wünschel, CEO Onshore Wind and Solar Europe & Australia, RWE Renewables, says:
Italian renewable energy market, especially with its 17 installations. The energy specialist operates with an integrated approach. It therefore includes development, construction, operation, but also marketing.
In addition to the Selinus wind farm, RWE also has an installed capacity of 480MW. The energy company is thus able to supply 376,000 Italian households with green electricity every year. The German company aims to double this capacity to 1000MW.
RWE’s targets are split between In addition, the company is setting up a team dedicated to offshore wind energy. It is in charge of evaluating the potential of projects off the coast of Italy.
