RWE wants to respond favorably to the Polish government’s tender for the construction of offshore wind turbines.
Growth in the Baltic Sea
RWE is thus responding to Warsaw’s desire to exploit its seabed. Poland wants to build a wind farm on the 53.E1 area of the Baltic Sea. The German firm is submitting a bid for 1.5 gigawatts of power around 75 kilometers from the Ustka coast.
Grzegorz Chodkowski, vice president of offshore development in Poland at RWE Renewables says:
“The effective implementation of new offshore projects off the Polish coast will bring our country significantly closer to the much-needed diversification of energy sources and increase the share of renewables in the energy mix, as envisaged in Poland’s energy policy.”
RWE says it is ready to compete for additional permits in the Polish Baltic Sea. The company claims to be in an ideal position to supply large-scale offshore parks.
A presence in Poland
The company RWE knows Poland well. Indeed, the German firm has been present there for several years and is participating in the country’s energy transition. Several onshore wind farms in Poland have been developed by RWE.
RWE aims to make its FEW Baltic II the first wind farm in the Polish Baltic Sea. According to the company, its project will benefit 350,000 Polish households. In addition, Poland will issue permits to exploit its seabed in 2025.
