German energy group RWE announced the commissioning of the Stoneridge Solar project in Milam County, Texas. The facility includes a photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 200 megawatts (MW) and a battery storage system of 100 MW, or 200 megawatt-hours (MWh). This energy complex is designed to meet strong local demand while ensuring a stable contribution to the power grid.

A strategic project in a fast-growing market

Stoneridge Solar adds to RWE’s energy assets in the United States, where total capacity now exceeds 11 gigawatts (GW). The project strengthens the company’s position in the expanding American market, particularly in the southern region where electricity needs are driven by rapid population growth and extreme weather conditions.

The construction of the site generated more than 200 temporary jobs. Permanent positions have also been created for ongoing operations, contributing to the region’s economic integration. The facility is expected to generate several million USD in tax revenues for Milam County and the Thorndale Independent School District.

Local deployment supported by tax revenues

The anticipated revenues are expected to support school renovations and emergency services. The project includes material support for Thorndale Elementary School and an operational partnership with the local volunteer fire department, reinforcing the operator’s local presence.

The project comes at a time of increasing strain on the Texas power grid. The addition of a storage system allows energy produced during the day to be distributed during peak demand periods. This technical setup enhances grid reliability while improving the management of intermittent capacity.

A combined solar-storage deployment model

The integration of solar production and battery storage is an emerging model in the U.S. energy sector. It increases grid flexibility without relying on conventional thermal sources.

By strengthening its installations in the United States, RWE continues to deploy infrastructure designed to meet energy needs while expanding its operational portfolio in high-potential regions.
