QuaTERA (Quantum Technologies Energy Result Accelerator) brings together EDF, Exaion Inc, PASQAL and the Quantum Innovation Zone.

A center of excellence

QuaTERA is the first open center of excellence for developing sustainable energy solutions. The center will use the combined capabilities of HPC and quantum computing. Its goal is to provide the energy sector with sustainable solutions based on quantum computing by 2024.

QuaTERA will form an ecosystem of partnerships at the intersection of the energy industry, classical/quantum hardware and hybrid algorithms. Thus, the goal is the design of quantum computing-based solutions that solve the challenges of the energy industry. Richard St-Pierre, CEO of the Quantum Innovation Zone, says:

“Today, quantum technologies hold a lot of promise waiting to be turned into real-world solutions. We decided to take the lead and play a decisive role in producing practical HPC-quantum solutions that impact today’s energy sector, while creating opportunities for collaborative projects and training of highly qualified personnel.”

An expertise

The cornerstone of QuaTERA is Exaion Inc’s expertise in high performance computing. In addition, the center benefits from PASQAL’s expertise in quantum machines. The coupling of these two systems will offer an unprecedented computational potential to solve what was previously impossible.

This man-machine combination offers a way forward to solve the specific problems faced by the global energy industry. These are the digital twins and the electric vehicle charging stations. The center will stimulate the creation of open solutions while providing sufficient business incentives for companies to participate.
