Puerto Angamos has announced the completion of unloading of the Colbún Horizonte Wind Farm. This event represents a major step forward in the development of renewable energies in the region, and a step towards a more diversified and sustainable energy matrix.

A large-scale logistics project

The project, which began in September 2022 under the management of Enercon, involved the transport and unloading of 1,260 parts via 32 vessels. The final stage, involving the unloading of 6 generators and 6 nacelles, marks the completion of this critical logistical phase in the construction and operation of the wind farm. José Sáenz, General Manager of Puerto Angamos, said:

“The completion of the offloading of the Horizonte Wind Farm is a significant milestone for our terminal and for the region as a whole. It reflects our firm commitment to promoting renewable energies in Chile and Latin America. We are proud to have contributed to this iconic project, which represents tangible progress towards a cleaner, more sustainable future for generations to come.”

A fruitful collaboration

Carla Tapia, National Director of Enercon, added:

“This event marks an important step towards our final goal and demonstrates the hard work and dedication of the entire team. We thank everyone who helped make this possible.”

José Ignacio Escobar, CEO of Colbún, emphasized:

“We’re delighted to close an important milestone in the construction of Horizonte, having completed the unloading of over 1,200 components of our wind farm via Puerto Angamos, one of the biggest logistical challenges the Antofagasta region has faced.”

Energy impact and future

The Horizonte Wind Project, located in the municipality of Taltal, has an installed capacity of 816 MW, capable of generating around 2,400 GWh of energy per year, equivalent to the consumption of more than 700,000 homes. Its future commissioning will avoid the emission of 1.2 million tonnes of CO2 per year, making a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions and strengthening the country’s energy sustainability.
The success of this project testifies to the region’s ability to manage complex infrastructure projects and actively contribute to the transition to cleaner energy sources. The commitment of Puerto Angamos and its partners demonstrates their determination to play a key role in the energy future of Chile and Latin America.
