The Philippine energy industry has experienced a historic moment with the arrival of clean and affordable liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the first time. The floating storage unit (FSU) ISH, on long-term lease from ADNOC Logistics & Services (L&S), has successfully docked at AG&P’s major Philippine LNG (PHLNG) facility in Batangas Bay.

GAS Entec, a subsidiary of AG&P, converted the ISH, a Moss-type LNG carrier, into a 137,500 cubic meter FSU in five months. ADNOC L&S will be responsible for the procurement, operations and maintenance of the FSU under its long-term lease agreement with AG&P.

LNG to serve the Luzon region of the Philippines

The LNG will initially be used to power the 1,200 MW San Miguel gas-fired power plant, one of the largest in the country, to serve Luzon, the most populous region in the Philippines. AG&P Industrial, a wholly owned subsidiary of AG&P, specializing in project delivery, has completed the full spectrum of engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, installation and commissioning (EPFCIC) of the PHLNG terminal and will be responsible for its operation and maintenance (O&M).

GAS Entec performed the key onshore and offshore components, including the complete EPC of the proprietary regasification modules for the PHLNG terminal, called RegasTainers™, suitable for plug-and-play operations.

Historic moment in the Philippines

On April 27, 2023, AG&P International Pte. Ltd. announced this milestone for the Philippine energy industry. The arrival of the FSU converted vessel and the unloading of the first LNG cargo makes this a historic moment for the country.

AG&P’s PHLNG terminal will be a cornerstone for LNG import and regasification in the Philippines, meeting current and future energy demand while accelerating industrialization, creating jobs, reducing pollution, and stimulating economic and social progress to improve the quality of life for many Filipinos.
