Power and Air Condition Solution Management GmbH (PASM), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG, has taken an important step towards enhancing its renewable energy portfolio.

Strategic Partnership for the Expansion of Renewable Energies

The company has just signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with EnBW, a leading energy group, to secure a 100 MW supply from the He Dreiht offshore wind farm in Germany’s North Sea.

This strategic partnership with EnBW marks a significant step forward in supporting the energy transition and achieving climate targets. Bernd Schulte-Sprenger, Managing Director of PASM, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, saying, “Our partnership with EnBW under the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the He Dreiht wind farm enables us to jointly advance the energy transition and make a significant contribution to achieving our climate goals.”

He Dreiht Offshore Wind Farm: A Key Project

The He Dreiht wind farm is located around 90 kilometers northwest of the island of Borkum and around 110 kilometers west of Heligoland. Scheduled to be operational by the end of 2025, it represents a milestone in the German energy landscape. EnBW won the development rights to this offshore wind farm with a groundbreaking zero-cents bid in 2017, setting a new standard for subsidy-free offshore projects. What’s more, this offshore wind farm will be the first to use wind turbines with an impressive capacity of 15 MW each, making it a pioneering project in Europe’s energy transition.

The role of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)

Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) have emerged as a crucial tool to facilitate the energy transition. The Dr. Georg Stamatelopoulos, Director of Sustainable Generation Infrastructure Operations at EnBW, emphasized their importance, saying, “We can only achieve the energy transition by working together. ACEs serve this purpose. They help companies achieve ambitious climate targets and provide renewable energy project developers with a reliable source of financing. This benefits the economy and the climate in equal measure.”

Strengthening commitment to renewable energies

The partnership between PASM and EnBW not only strengthens the commitment to renewable energy, but also secures more than half of He Dreiht’s capacity through PPAs. This collaboration testifies to the industry’s commitment to the expansion of renewable energies and its contribution to a sustainable future.

Construction of the EnBW He Dreiht Offshore Wind Farm begins

Construction of the EnBW He Dreiht offshore wind farm is scheduled to start in May 2024, further consolidating Germany’s position as a leader in the development of renewable energies.
