Norway has stated its intention to license 30GW of new offshore wind capacity by 2040. The Norwegian government calls on the company Aker.
An ambitious project
Norway announces an ambitious plan for offshore wind power. Sebastian Bringsværd, Vice President of Mainstream Norway and Sweden, says:
“Offshore wind gives Norway the opportunity to create new green jobs, be a driving force in the energy transition and secure a Norwegian energy surplus for the future.”
The Aker company thus wishes to become a driving force in the development of offshore wind energy.
Utsira Nord and Sør Nordsjø 2 have strong consortia for both areas. This is not the first offshore wind project for the Norwegian company. Indeed, Aker, with the help of BP and Statkraft, is already present in Norway.
Reduction of the deadlines
Norway, will benefit from the company’s expertise to complete this 30GW project by 2040. The time between the announcement of the production and the beginning of the production is ten years. Thus, this delay is the main challenge for the Norwegian company.
Currently, there is potential to streamline licensing processes without compromising the democratic process. Norway must meet the growing need for electricity in the country and in Europe. These new renewable value chains will make the country even more attractive for the offshore and maritime industry.
