Nanotech Energy announces a framework purchase agreement with SmileEnergy in Athens to provide energy storage systems. The company will provide battery energy storage systems (BESS) in excess of 1GWh through 2028.

A partnership for Greece

Nanotech Energy will benefit from the partnership with SmileEnergy, enabling the immediate expansion of the energy storage business. Both companies are helping Greece to ensure the stability of its infrastructure and the continuity of its energy supply. Indeed, the country is committed to developing world-leading solar infrastructure.

Greece will use Nanotech Energy’s battery technology. The objective is to develop BESS systems for private homes, commercial real estate and the marine sector. Jack Kavanaugh, CEO of Nanotech Energy, states:

“We are delighted to enter into these agreements with one of Europe’s most forward-thinking renewable energy providers. As the world moves to a new energy mix, battery storage will be critical to maximizing green energy opportunities. We look forward to working closely with SmileEnergy for many years to come.”

A storage technology

SmileEnergy aims to operate the first commercial and stationary BESS system for several Greek islands. The company currently has 300MW of solar developments in Greece, Bulgaria and Romania. It also has 700MWh of energy storage under development in the same region.

This agreement between Nanotech Energy and SmileEnergy demonstrates the importance of the graphene battery for the energy storage market. Thus, large-area monolayer graphene can be used in multiple applications. It is notably present in lithium-ion batteries and transparent conductive electrodes.
