Energy & Metals and Compagnie de Saint-Gobain announced the signing of a private wire power purchase agreement for energy generated from a 4.9 MW solar farm in Italy. The solar power plant will be built on the premises of Saint-Gobain’s historic plant in Vidalengo and will begin commercial operation in mid-2023.
Agreement will generate renewable electricity to power Saint-Gobain plant
The agreement will produce more than 7.5 GWh of renewable electricity per year, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 3,900 tons each year. This investment will contribute to Italy’s and Greece’s decarbonization strategy, in addition to supporting Italy’s energy independence policy.
MYTILINEOS evolves into an integrated utility
Yiannis Kalafatas, general manager of MYTILINEOS’ energy sector, said the company is moving toward an integrated utility while understanding the increased needs of its partners. Italy is a strategic country for MYTILINEOS, and this agreement demonstrates their ability to support local industries in this difficult period of energy volatility.
MYTILINEOS fully supports the strategic decarbonization plan of Greece and Italy with current and future investments, especially now that energy prices are reaching historic highs in the European Union. The company currently has an Italian portfolio of 157 MW under construction, 2 GW under development and plans to add another 1 GW in 2023.
Saint-Gobain, ahead of the curve in sustainable construction
Gaetano Terrasini, Saint-Gobain’s Italian CEO, said that sustainability is at the heart of the company’s DNA and that their vision is to become the world leader in sustainable construction. The agreement reached for the Vidalengo plant represents an important step towards the Group’s ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
