Meadow Creek, a solar farm project in the Australian state of Victoria, selects Energy Vault to provide a BESS.

Energy storage

Meadow Creek will host a 250MW/500MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The 330MW solar farm is located three hours north of Melbourne, Australia. It supplies carbon-free electricity to about 110,000 homes in the region.

Meadow Creek is completing extensive work on the feasibility of the project. The group now plans to undertake advanced studies and modeling of the network. BESS is in the same place as solar photovoltaic energy offering resilience and flexibility of load and release.

A favorable context

Lucas Sadler, vice president of sales and business development, Asia Pacific (APAC), says:

“In recent months, the new Australian Federal Government has sent a strong mandate to the market to accelerate the transition to renewable energy technologies, supported by significant updates from state governments on their clean energy and emissions reduction targets. The goals of Meadow Creek Solar Farm, Hybrid Solar PV and BESS Developments are well met with the release of Energy Vault’s custom AC and DC block energy storage solutions for the Australian market. Importantly, this award builds on the significant progress Energy Vault has made over the past year as we bring our transformative energy storage solutions to this important market.”

The Meadow Creek award is a result of previous announcements of development of the Gravity Energy Storage System (GESS). Energy Vault will offer its solutions and unique software approach to meet the diverse energy storage needs of its customers.

Australia is the major growth market for Energy Vault. It specializes in sustainable energy storage products based on gravity and kinetics. Its objective is to participate in decarbonization while maintaining the resilience of the network.
