Kinewell Energy, an offshore wind energy company, has won a contract from Blue Wind Engineering to optimize the substation location and inter-assembly cable route for the 600 MW Wando-Guemil project in South Korea. The project is being developed by KEON with the support of Dohwa and Blue Wind Engineering.
Kinewell Energy launches KLOC, an AI-based technology to optimize offshore wind project costs
Kinewell Energy will use its unique artificial intelligence-based cable layout optimization technology called KLOC to design an economically optimized inter-assembly cable layout. The technology will prioritize capital cost optimization over operational costs such as power distribution losses.
Drs. Andrew Jenkins, CEO and founder of Kinewell Energy, was pleased to be selected by Blue Wind Engineering for the project, and said their KLOC technology would help maximize the value of the project by optimizing both the substation location and the inter-assembly cable system. Drs. Jone Oh, CEO of Blue Wind Engineering, also spoke enthusiastically about working with Kinewell Energy and the value their KLOC inter-assembly cable layout optimization technology will bring to the project.
Kinewell Energy’s latest generation KLOC software was launched globally at the Global Offshore Wind conference in the summer of 2022, and the contract follows that launch. Kinewell Energy developed this innovative technology with a £3.5 million share of match funding from the North of Tyne Combined Authority’s TIGGOR program, delivered by Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult.
Kinewell Energy’s offshore wind expertise leveraged for Wando-Guemil project in South Korea
Drs. Jenkins credited his team’s success in meeting TIGGOR’s goals for the contract award. The Kinewell Energy team has a history of providing inter-ensemble optimization consulting and KLOC licensing services to the European, Japanese, U.S., South Korean, and Chinese offshore wind markets, with experience in delivering over 13.1 GW of offshore wind layout optimization projects, in addition to those performed by licensed clients.
For example, Kinewell Energy’s expertise and innovative technology in offshore wind power continues to advance as it optimizes the substation location and inter-assembly cable route for the 600 MW Wando-Guemil project in South Korea. The successful contract with Blue Wind Engineering is proof of the company’s commitment to providing cost-effective and efficient solutions for their customers. With a track record of over 13.1 GW of offshore wind layout optimization projects, Kinewell Energy is well positioned for continued growth and expansion in the industry.
