A success in California

Invenergy has been awarded the contract to operate 80,418 acres of seabed with offshore wind turbines. This is a decision by the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM). The winning bid of $145.3 million gets the OCS-P 0565 lease.

The company is the only American-owned interim winner. Michael Polsky, founder and CEO of Invenergy, states:

“Invenergy’s innovation has been built on decades of unparalleled experience in executing complex and ambitious energy projects. As the only U.S. company with a California lease, we are uniquely positioned to advance the U.S. expertise needed to ensure the country’s competitiveness in the global offshore wind market.”

In addition, this lease doubles the company’s offshore wind portfolio and confirms the company’s commitment to offshore wind development.

A recognized experience

This is the second lease the company has obtained this year. Earlier this year, the company and its partners secured OCS-A 0542 in the New York Bight. Joshua Weinstein, vice president and head of offshore development at Invenergy, says:

“We are thrilled to be a provisional winner of BOEM’s first offshore wind lease sale on the West Coast. We will bring Invenergy’s two decades of development experience to this project, working closely with coastal communities and stakeholders to leverage our history of community investment to deliver clean, reliable energy to California.”

Invenergy and its affiliates develop, own and operate generation and storage facilities. The company operates mainly in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. The company is currently developing more than 30GW of projects in operation, under construction or under contract.
