Greenland ranks eighth globally for rare earth reserves, according to a Wood Mackenzie analysis. Yet the territory has no operating mines. The report titled “Polar prize? The realities of developing Greenland’s rare earth potential” identifies geographic, regulatory, and infrastructure barriers hindering commercial production. The European Commission estimates that Greenland could produce 27 of the 34 minerals defined as critical under its Critical Raw Materials Act.
