Goose Creek, an onshore wind project of Apex Clean Energy in the U.S., will host Vestas EnVentus turbines.

A contract for 50 turbines

Goose Creek, an Apex Clean Energy wind project inIllinois, will host 50 Vestas V162-6.2 MW turbines. For example, Apex Clean Energy’s order to Vestas amounts to 300MW. Indeed, each turbine will have a capacity of 6MW.

The order for Goose Creek includes the supply, delivery and commissioning of the turbines. It also includes a 10-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service contract. The contract is designed to ensure optimal performance of the asset.

A local project

Laura Beane, president of Vestas North America, says:

“Our advanced modular design in the EnVentus platform allows our customers to expand their wind energy portfolios with customizable solutions, and we are excited to partner with Apex Clean Energy on the Goose Creek Wind Farm in Illinois, bringing the state closer to achieving its goal of 100% clean energy by 2050.”

In addition, the wind project will support nearly 400 construction jobs. In addition, Goose Creek will generate approximately $200 million in tax revenues and payments to landowners in Illinois.

Delivery of the turbines will begin in the third quarter of 2023. Finally, Goose Creek will be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2023.

A full-scale testing programme will begin in January to assess a blade reinforcement technology developed by Bladena, as ageing offshore wind fleets raise durability challenges.
