GE Renewable Energy announced today that it has been selected by wpd to supply 16 onshore wind turbines to three wind farms located in Landkreis Uelzen, Niedersachsen, 100 km southeast of Hamburg. The three projects have a total installed capacity of 88 MW and will operate GE’s 5.5 MW turbines with a rotor diameter of 158 meters. In addition, GE Renewable Energy will provide a full 15-year service contract with an option to extend for an additional 5 years.

The wind farms will produce enough energy to provide electricity to the equivalent of about 90,000 homes per year and will be operational within the next two years. The two projects Bankewitz and Müssingen are expected to be commissioned by the end of 2023, while the third project, called Flinten, is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024.

Successful partnership between wpd and GE Renewable Energy

Dr. Hartmut Brösamle, COO at wpd, said that “wpd is pleased to have GE Renewable Energy as an experienced project partner. He added that the Bankewitz, Müssingen and Flinten wind farms are important and exciting projects for the German market, and that the company is confident in GE Renewable Energy’s ability to deliver quality technology.

Gilan Sabatier, GE’s sales manager for Onshore Wind International, also expressed his satisfaction: “We are delighted to have been selected by wpd for these three projects, which demonstrates our continued commitment to the German onshore wind market, expands our presence in Europe and confirms our customers’ confidence in our technology.”

GE Renewable Energy, a global leader in onshore wind energy

GE’s most powerful onshore wind platform includes turbines ranging in size from 4.8 to 6.1 MW, rotor diameters of 158 and 164 meters and various hub heights. Since the introduction of the 4.8-6.1 onshore wind farm in 2017, GE Renewable Energy has received nearly 9 GW of orders and accumulated more than 4 million hours of operation worldwide.

This contract reinforces GE Renewable Energy’s position as a global leader in the onshore wind energy industry and confirms its commitment to the global energy transition.
