In a global context where the transition to renewable energy sources is becoming increasingly imperative, SSE Renewables has taken a significant initiative by starting construction of its first onshore wind farm in France. This event marks a step forward not only for the company, but also for France’s efforts in the field of clean energy.
The 27.2 MW wind farm is equipped with eight Siemens Gamesa SG 3.4-132 turbines, each producing 3.4 MW of renewable energy.

Economic impact and local jobs generated

This initiative represents a significant step forward in SSE Renewables’ efforts to expand its footprint beyond the UK and Ireland, part of its pipeline acquired in Southern Europe last year. With a total investment of over 30 million euros, this project should have a significant impact on the local economy of the Grand-Est region. Construction will reach its peak with the creation of around 80 jobs, providing a welcome economic boost.

Partnerships and Project Support

Omexom, in partnership with civil contractor Pothelet, is in charge of the Balance of Plant, highlighting the importance of collaboration and local expertise in such projects. Suppliers such as Vodafone, Dekra, Elys, Groupe Geotec and Auddicé are also supporting the project.

Energy and Environmental Objectives

Scheduled for completion by the end of 2024, the wind farm will generate enough low-carbon energy to power more than 14,000 homes every year over its 35-year lifespan. This represents a significant step towards achieving France’s renewable energy and carbon neutrality targets by 2050.
Delphine Henri, Director of SSE Renewables in France, emphasizes the importance of this project, which has been under development for around eight years. From the outset, the project has been guided by a commitment to transparency and close collaboration with local residents and stakeholders.
