France: EDF and ASN in dialogue on the EPR cover in Flamanville
EDF is in dialogue with the French Nuclear Safety Authority (Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire) in order to postpone the date initially scheduled for the end of 2024, for the replacement of the cover of the EPR reactor vessel under construction in Flamanville. The postponement proposed by Framatome will make it possible to carry out this replacement until mid-2025, as well as to defuse the anomalies on the cover. However, this new delay will result in an estimated additional cost of €500 million, bringing the total to €13.2 billion.

EDF is in dialogue with the nuclear safety watchdog to postpone the date initially scheduled for the end of 2024 for the replacement of the cover of the EPR reactor vessel under construction in Flamanville. The nuclear manufacturer Framatome has requested a postponement of this date and wishes to postpone this replacement until mid-2025.
Deactivating anomalies on the cover
However, if the replacement is not made before the start-up of the reactor scheduled for mid-2024, it will have to shut down for several months, according to EDF. The ASN hopes that this global visit will defuse the anomalies on the cover.
Increased cost level
The additional delay will result in an estimated additional cost of €500 million, bringing the total to €13.2 billion.
