Norwegian energy giant Equinor and Japan’s Hitachi Energy on Tuesday announced a strategic partnership to collaborate on electrification, renewable power generation and low-carbon projects around the world.
This broad collaboration will initially focus on developing harmonized transmission systems to connect Equinor’s offshore wind farms and generation facilities to onshore power grids, according to press releases from both groups.
Financial terms of the partnership, which will cover Hitachi Energy’s entire portfolio of power grid technologies and solutions, were not disclosed.
Hitachi Energy is a Swiss-based entity of the Hitachi conglomerate formed in 2020 after its acquisition of the power grid business of the Swiss-Swedish ABB Group.
Equinor and ABB have worked together for decades on a variety of projects, including major offshore energy sites in the North Sea.
