Derrinlough, an onshore wind farm in Bord na Móna, Ireland, will have Vestas wind turbines.

A renewed partnership

Derrinlough is located in CountyOffaly in the Irish Midlands. The site will have 21 Vestas EnVentus V150-6.0 MW wind turbines. This model of wind turbine has a hub height of 110 meters.

Bord na Móna’s order for Derrinlough includes the supply, installation and commissioning of the turbines. In addition, both partners announce a 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service contract. Juan Furones, vice president of sales for Northern and Central Europe at Vestas, says:

“Vestas is delighted to partner with Bord na Móna again in Ireland. Derrinlough marks the continuation of the relationship between Bord na Móna and Vestas after the successful delivery of the Cloncreen project. Vestas is proud to see the success of the EnVentus platform in Ireland, which offers a wide range of customized solutions to meet the needs of each unique project.”

Derrinlough the largest park in Ireland

Bord na Móna with the Derrinlough project was successful in the recent RESS-2 auction. Once installed, it will be the largest wind farm installation in Ireland. In addition, this is the first deployment of the EnVentus V150-6.0 MW technology project for Vestas in Ireland.

John Reilly, head of Bord na Móna Renewable Energy, says:

“Following a highly competitive international tender process, we are pleased to award the contract for 21 turbines for the Derrinlough wind farm to Vestas. We look forward to working with Vestas again in the coming months to deliver affordable green energy that improves Ireland’s energy security. Bord na Móna is committed to green energy for the Irish people, as evidenced by the company’s investment of over €150 million in the development of this project. We are proud to help power a sustainable energy future for Irish communities through our renewable energy assets, such as wind.”

Delivery and installation of the wind turbines is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024. Finally, commissioning will take place in the third quarter of 2024.
