Three renowned companies, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Flexens and Lhyfe, have joined forces to launch the Åland Energy Island project, located in Åland, a region between Denmark, France and Finland.

The Åland Energy Island project

This ambitious project aims to integrate large-scale offshore wind power generation with green hydrogen production. The aim is to develop large-scale hydrogen production in Åland, integrated with gigawatt wind power production in Åland’s waters, for use both on Åland and throughout the European region, thus supporting Åland’s and the EU’s objectives for energy security and decarbonization.

Åland’s green energy targets

The integration of offshore wind power and green hydrogen production will offer Åland a route to market for the untapped wind resources around Åland, positioning Åland as a key player in the region’s green transition.

The project’s environmental benefits

The exact configuration of the Åland Energy Island project will be developed in close coordination with the local government and other local stakeholders to maximize the benefits for Åland.

CIP, Lhyfe and Flexens welcome the opportunity to discuss the development of offshore wind energy and hydrogen in Åland with all relevant stakeholders. The consortium offers an attractive set of complementary skills and expertise that will enable the development of offshore wind energy and benefit Åland’s wider society.

By forming this ambitious partnership, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Flexens and Lhyfe aim to make Åland a key player in the region’s green transition. This project combining offshore wind power and green hydrogen production paves the way for a greener economy and a more sustainable society for Åland and beyond.
