Squadron Energy, Australia’s largest renewable energy company, has reached a major milestone in the country’s transition to green energy with the opening of the Bango wind farm.

Bango Wind Farm: A milestone in the development of the wind industry in Australia

The wind farm, located in the South Western Slopes of New South Wales, consists of 46 turbines that are now fully operational and generating clean, renewable energy. This marks the first renewable energy project to begin operation since Squadron Energy purchased CWP Renewables in December.

The Bango wind farm will produce enough electricity to power 144,000 homes and prevent 543,000 tons of carbon emissions from being released into the atmosphere each year. The project will also play a crucial role in producing greener food, as Woolworths has agreed to purchase electricity from Bango for about 30% of its energy needs in New South Wales, which is equivalent to 108 supermarkets. This underscores the growing trend of companies recognizing the importance of sustainable energy and taking steps to reduce their carbon footprint.

Tattarang Chairman Dr. Andrew Forrest AO emphasized the importance of the Bango wind farm, saying it is not only a milestone for Squadron Energy, but also a significant development in Australia’s transition to green energy. He also emphasized the urgency of meeting the federal government’s goal of 82% renewable energy by 2030 and the importance of the business sector working with the government to achieve this goal.

Snowy Hydro and Transurban commit to purchase electricity from Bango wind farm

Squadron Energy CEO Jason Willoughby expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the Bango Wind Farm project, including the company’s dedicated team and valued partners. He noted that this project represents another step forward for Squadron Energy as they realize their development pipeline of 20 GW of wind, solar and battery projects across Australia.

The Bango wind farm also provided benefits to the local community, supporting over 320 jobs and injecting $14 million into the regional economy during construction. Snowy Hydro and Transurban have also signed power purchase agreements to buy power from the Bango wind farm. With the Sapphire Wind Farm in operation, Squadron Energy now supplies 80% of the combined electricity needs of Sydney’s Eastern Distributor, Cross City Tunnel, Hills M2, Lane Cove Tunnel and WestConnex toll roads.

The opening of the Bango wind farm represents a significant milestone for Australia’s renewable energy sector and demonstrates the potential for the corporate sector to play a leading role in the country’s transition to sustainable energy.
