Swiss energy group Alpiq acquires 54.9% of P2X Solutions, based in Espoo, Finland. This fusion marks a significant step forward in the production ofgreen hydrogen, essential for industrial decarbonization. Alpiq’s choice is based on P2X Solutions’ expertise and innovation, affirming its commitment to climate protection and energy security. Founder Herkko Plit remains CEO, ensuring strategic continuity.

Expansion and shared ambitions

P2X Solutions, a Power-to-X specialist, is developing Finland’s first industrial green hydrogen plant, due to be operational in early 2025. With a capacity of 20 MW, it is one of the largest in Europe. This partnership with Alpiq, already involved in several PPAs (Power Purchase Agreements) in the North, reinforces the growth and expansion ambitions of both entities, particularly in the Nordic countries.

Promising synergies

The collaboration between Alpiq and P2X Solutions promises significant synergies, particularly in the areas of origination, trading and asset management. Alpiq, renowned for its expertise in flexibility and its portfolio of PPAs, sees P2X Solutions as a strategic complement to strengthen its position in green energy and Power-to-X beyond Finland’s borders.

Alpiq recognizes the crucial role of hydrogen in the energy transition, essential for decarbonizing sectors that are difficult to electrify. Since 2020, Alpiq has been developing green hydrogen production activities in Switzerland and Europe.

P2X Solutions is a key player in the development of the green hydrogen market. The company is helping to meet the growing need for hydrogen and synthetic fuels, supplying industry and transport in a sustainable development context.
