Aker Horizons prepares major investment in the region
The October 26, 2021 announcements represent the start of major regional investments that will develop industrial value chains.
Aker Horizons will produce various “green” technologies such as hydrogen, carbon capture, RE, and battery production.
In collaboration with the municipality of Narvik, the company will support the local community through education-related initiatives.
“We are delighted to announce our investments and plans for a green industrial cluster in Narvik. The region offers several advantages: access to attractive renewable energy, excellent infrastructure, and an engaged local community,” said Kristian Røkke, Managing Director of Aker Horizons.
The next step is to further prepare and develop the individual sites.
Individual projects in collaboration with business partners and the authorities will form part of future investment decisions scheduled for 2022.
Narvik, a pole of attraction
Narvik is a regional transportation hub located over 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle.
The town has rail links to Sweden and Oslo, freeways and a year-round ice-free port. In addition, theElectricity prices in Northern Norway are low by Northern European standards.
This gives the region an advantage in the development of energy-intensive industrial products.
Added to this is good access to water, good local geography and good logistical capabilities.
Aker Horizons sees the region as an opportunity to develop green jobs.
