AGL: 250 MW battery in South Australia

Please share:

AGL will begin construction this year of a 250 MW battery on Torrens Island, near Adelaide, Australia.
The Australian company aims to have the project fully operational by 2023.

AGL develops 250 MW of energy storage

Reliable, affordable energy for all

The battery at the Torrens site is the first in the AGL network.
The company has the backing of the South Australian State Government, which is aiming to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
With South Australia generating more wind power than any other Australian state, this battery will help manage a reliable supply of energy for the population.
Because of their ability to better manage the supply of renewable energies, particularly when they are intermittent.
AGL’s 250 MW battery is expected to have an autonomy of 4 hours.
This will enable it to adapt to changing market conditions.

The largest battery financed by the private sector

This battery will give South Australia “the largest battery” financed by the private sector.
AGL’s investment is a strong vote of confidence in the government’s energy policies.
Earlier this year, AGL signed agreements with global energy storage technology companies Wartsila and Fluence.
This investment demonstrates the confidence of the private sector in South Australian energy.
