ACCIONA Energía today announced the start of construction of Forty Mile, a 280 MW wind power project in Forty Mile County No. 8 in Alberta, Canada.
ACCIONA Energía’s Forty Mile wind project: A positive impact on the community
Forty Mile was developed by Renewable Energy Systems Canada, Inc. (RES), with construction scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2025. The wind farm will comprise 49 Nordex turbines and will be ACCIONA Energía’s largest wind power project in North America. The project therefore has the potential to be extended to 400MW in a second phase. Forty Mile will create up to 250 jobs during the peak construction phase, and up to 25 permanent jobs once operational.
ACCIONA Energía and RES will work closely with stakeholders. Including local government agencies and landowners. To ensure harmonious development and maximize the project’s positive impact on the community. The project is part of ACCIONA Energía’s social impact management program. It reinvests a portion of its annual revenues to support education, wellness and environmental stewardship programs in the communities where it operates.
ACCIONA Energía already owns and operates four wind farms in Canada, totalling over 180 MW of wind power capacity. In addition, the construction of this project expands the company’s footprint in North America and continues to advance its commitment to growth and plans for geographic diversification.
