ACCIONA Energía signs a PPA with BREP

In Australia, ACCIONA Energía signs a 10-year renewable PPA with a consortium of three major companies.

PPA signed between ACCIONA Energía and BREP

BREP was created by Barwon Water, Barwon Health and GeelongPort. These are three large companies managing local water, health and transport services in Victoria, Australia. The objective of this consortium is therefore to facilitate the collective purchase of renewable energy and to reduce emissions.

The electricity will be supplied from ACCIONA Energía’s Mt Gellibrand wind farm in southwestern Victoria. With a capacity of 132 MW, this wind farm produces enough clean energy to supply nearly 90,000 Australian homes.

A PPA participating in the energy transition

Melanie Sutton, Director of Energy Markets and Policy for ACCIONA Energía in Australia, says:

“This agreement is another step towards implementing the Victorian Government’s climate change strategy. It is also an example of how large businesses can successfully decarbonize their energy use. We’re proud of this agreement and how we’re using renewable energy generated here in Victoria to power local businesses and help them meet their decarbonization goals.”

As for the CEOs of the companies in the consortium, they stressed the relevance of this contract to achieve the decarbonization objectives of their companies and the sectors in which they operate. They also reiterated the benefits of regional collaborations to lead Victoria’s energy transition.

Kenya: recurring power cuts disrupt daily life

Kenya was plunged into darkness following a massive power failure exacerbated by torrential rains causing devastating floods. This critical situation highlights the vulnerabilities of an infrastructure already weakened by extreme weather conditions, while the main electricity supplier, Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC), is working to restore power.

Energy prices expected to fall in 2024, despite a global rise

By 2024, electricity and gas prices in France are set to fall, thanks to recent government reforms and market adjustments. However, they will remain above the pre-crisis levels of 2021-2022, highlighting the persistent challenges and strategies needed to stabilize the energy sector in a post-crisis context.
