CEZ selects Westinghouse to ensure safety of its nuclear power plants

Westinghouse Electric Company will supply VVER-440 fuel assemblies to CEZ's Dukovany nuclear power plants, replacing the current supplier, as part of a seven-year contract to diversify supply sources and ensure energy security in the Czech Republic.

Westinghouse Electric Company has signed an agreement with CEZ to supply VVER-440 fuel assemblies to the Dukovany nuclear power plants.

CEZ chooses energy security for its nuclear power plants

Westinghouse will replace the current supplier and begin delivering fuel in 2024. The contract is for seven years. This decision is part of CEZ’s commitment to diversify its energy sources and ensure the safety of its nuclear power plants.

This company has been in partnership with Westinghouse for a long time. It recently signed an agreement to supply Robust Westinghouse Modified Fuel Assemblies (RWFA) to the Temelin nuclear power plant. “The safety of our nuclear power plants is a top priority, but we are also concerned about the energy security of the entire Czech Republic. That is why the contract with Westinghouse is very important. By expanding the number of possible suppliers, we strengthen our energy independence and the certainty of continuous operation of our sources,” said Bohdan Zronek, member of the CEZ board of directors and director of the nuclear power division.

Westinghouse has been a major player in the supply of VVER reactors for over a decade. “We are grateful for the confidence that the CEZ Group has placed in Westinghouse and are fully committed to supporting its policy of diversifying sources of supply,” said Tarik Choho, president of Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel. “Westinghouse offers a real alternative with a proven fuel design for VVER plants, and we look forward to strengthening our long-term collaboration with CEZ.”
