Kem One, a major player in the chemical industry in France, concluded a protocol agreement with EDF on July 16, 2025, for a 10-year electricity supply contract. The contract covers Kem One’s seven industrial sites located in Fos-sur-Mer, Lavera, Balan, Berre, Saint-Fons, Saint-Auban, and Vauvert. The protocol outlines a balanced sharing of risks and benefits between the two parties, providing Kem One with visibility on its energy costs for the years to come.
Under the terms of this agreement, both companies are committed to finalising the contract by the end of September 2025. The first electricity delivery is scheduled for January 1, 2026. This partnership is part of EDF’s commercial strategy to offer long-term energy stability to French industrials. The contract was negotiated after several months of discussions aimed at ensuring the competitiveness and sustainability of Kem One’s industrial sites.
Paolo Barbieri, Chief Executive Officer of Kem One, emphasised that this agreement represents a strategic lever for the company’s competitiveness. He added that, in a challenging economic context for the chemical sector, having visibility on electricity costs was crucial for securing the long-term viability of the industrial sites. The agreement is also intended to secure the energy supply necessary for Kem One’s production processes.
Marc Benayoun, Executive Director of EDF in charge of the Clients, Services and Territories division, stated that this protocol provides Kem One with the necessary stability to maintain and develop its operations, particularly in France and Europe. He explained that this partnership reflects EDF’s commitment to supporting French industry by providing reliable, competitive, and low-carbon electricity, thus contributing to the country’s energy sovereignty.
A structuring partnership for the chemical industry
This protocol agreement is part of a broader trend where large industrial players seek to secure their energy supply amidst increasingly volatile markets. For Kem One, this partnership with EDF not only represents long-term competitiveness but also a stronger foothold in the regions where the company operates.
Electricity supply is a major issue for energy-intensive industries such as chemicals, where the stability of energy costs can determine the competitiveness of products in the market. This 10-year contract serves as an important lever to guarantee favourable production conditions for Kem One in the long term.
EDF commits to industrial energy transition
For EDF, this signing reflects its commitment to supporting French industrials in their energy transition while also bolstering national energy sovereignty. The electricity provider is striving to offer low-carbon solutions, contributing to the decarbonisation of the industrial sector. The partnership with Kem One illustrates EDF’s efforts to provide sustainable and competitive solutions to its clients.
