The Chinese company HyperStrong, specialising in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and Swedish energy project developer Repono AB formalised their strategic partnership with an agreement signed on 23 June. This collaboration specifically targets deploying projects totalling a cumulative capacity of 1.4 gigawatt-hours (GWh) on the European grid by the end of 2027.
Division of expertise
Under the terms of this agreement, the two companies combine their respective areas of expertise to enable rapid deployment of electricity storage capacities. Repono AB will handle project development, including site identification and selection, obtaining necessary permits, and managing local grid connections. Meanwhile, HyperStrong will oversee the complete integration of energy storage systems, including equipment delivery and related lifecycle services for the installations.
This partnership is designed to be complementary, as each company contributes distinct competencies needed for the efficient realisation of the planned projects. According to the terms of the agreement, both parties will jointly carry out planning and conduct technical and commercial evaluations of identified projects.
Shared European ambitions
HyperStrong, represented by Senior Vice President International Mr Pingyang Wang, highlighted the Chinese group’s long-term commitment to the European market. The company views its partnership with Repono as a strategic lever to meet the demand for grid stability across Europe, aligning with European objectives regarding energy transition.
Mr Karim Nils Grueber, CEO of Repono AB, emphasised his company’s proven track record operating energy storage systems, accumulating more than 100,000 operational hours on BESS installations. He noted that HyperStrong’s technical expertise complements Repono’s competencies in developing and coordinating Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects.
Detailed preliminary assessment
Mr Greger Landén, Chief Technical Officer of Repono AB, indicated that a six-month technical evaluation period was conducted jointly with HyperStrong to verify compatibility between the companies’ respective technologies and approaches. According to him, this prior evaluation confirmed strong technical alignment between both organisations.
He added that both teams share the same operational safety and performance standards. The two companies thus plan to jointly develop best practices for large-scale energy storage in Europe, while still maintaining their individual strategic priorities.
