Ocean Winds and Banque des Territoires endorse the project to build three floating wind turbines in the Mediterranean, with the aim of seeing them come on stream by the end of 2023.
Floating wind turbines to meet the needs of 50,000 inhabitants
“The final investment decision will enable contracts to be signed with the main industrial and financial partners, and the construction phase of the project to be launched,” say the program’s sponsors in a statement.
The wind turbines, which will be operated for 20 years, “will alone cover the annual electricity needs of more than 50,000 coastal residents, the equivalent of the town of Narbonne”, says Ocean Winds, the offshore wind joint venture owned by Engie and the Portuguese group EDPR, in a press release.
These wind turbines will be installed in the Mediterranean, “more than 16 km” off Leucate in the Aude region and Le Barcarès in the Pyrénées-Orientales region.
Under study since 2017, the project has already been authorized by the administrative authorities.
