TPAO and ExxonMobil Sign Exploration Agreement Covering Black Sea and Mediterranean
The Turkish national oil company and the American major have formalized a memorandum of understanding in Istanbul. This partnership targets expansion of Black Sea operations, opening of new Mediterranean zones, and projects in Somalia.

Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) and ESSO Exploration International Limited, a subsidiary of ExxonMobil, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on January 8, 2026 in Istanbul. TPAO’s General Manager, Cem Erdem, and ExxonMobil’s Vice President for Global Exploration, John Ardill, formalized this partnership. Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that this agreement aims to improve operational efficiency and support new hydrocarbon discoveries.
