Six EPR2 Reactors Confirmed: France Launches Studies to Close Its Nuclear Fuel Cycle

France's Nuclear Policy Council (CPN) met on March 12, 2026, on the Penly site, where two of the six new EPR2 reactors planned in France are intended to be built. Following this session, EDF, Framatome, the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and Orano welcomed the government's decisions. The confirmation of the program to build six EPR2 reactors, a new generation of pressurized water reactors developed by EDF and Framatome, at the Penly, Gravelines and Bugey sites constitutes the main decision of this meeting.
