The European Court of Auditors (ECA) has released an audit concluding that the European Commission remains an important player in international nuclear safety cooperation, but that its effectiveness is hampered by the lack of a comprehensive and updated strategy, a deficit of transparency in project selection, and gaps in monitoring financed actions. The audit covers the period 2014-2024. During this timeframe, the EU allocated approximately €600 million in grants to partner countries, intended for training, equipment, infrastructure, and remediation work, and provided a €300 million loan for the modernization of nuclear power plants in Ukraine.
