The Japanese government confirmed the presence of a mobile drilling vessel moored and anchored in waters where the exclusive economic zones (EEZ) of Japan and China overlap. Minoru Kihara, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary, stated that the boundaries of the EEZ and continental shelf in the East China Sea remain undetermined. The official described China’s continued activities as “deeply regrettable.”
