The French government asked refiners on Monday to assess, "as soon as possible", the capacity of their sites in France to quickly and temporarily increase production of refined products. The executive hopes these measures will help "ease pressure on European markets for refined products". Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced on X that the government had "requested and enabled the Gravenchon refinery to rapidly increase its capacity". He cited the Middle East crisis and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, which are pushing energy prices higher "across the world", affecting fishing, transport and agriculture.
