The European Union does not plan to massively import Canadian fossil fuels. Belén Martínez Carbonell, secretary general of the European External Action Service (EEAS) — the Union's diplomatic corps — stated on February 27 at a press conference in Ottawa that the European priority lies with clean energy sources. She was visiting Canada to discuss urgent foreign policy and defense priorities with senior Canadian officials. The European Union aims to become the first climate-neutral continent by 2050.
