Woodside and Pemex Launch Trion Field Drilling in Gulf of Mexico
Woodside Energy and Pemex have launched drilling operations at Trion field, located at approximately 2,500 meters depth in the Gulf of Mexico. Mexico's first ultra-deepwater oil project targets first production in 2028.

Woodside Energy and Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) have launched drilling operations at Trion field, located in the ultra-deepwater waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The Deepwater Thalassa drilling vessel, operated by Transocean, joined Mexican waters on March 5, 2026. This campaign represents, according to Woodside, a decisive milestone for the development of Mexico's offshore oil sector.
