Woodside Energy and Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) have launched the drilling program for the Trion field, located approximately 2,500 meters deep in the ultra-deepwater waters of the Gulf of Mexico. This deposit is situated 180 kilometers off Mexican coasts and 30 kilometers from the maritime border between the United States and Mexico. Discovered by Pemex in 2012, the field is part of the Perdido Fold Belt, a geological formation in the Gulf of Mexico. Woodside, the project operator, holds 60% of Trion's interests, compared to 40% for Pemex.
