Woodside Energy and Pemex Launch 24-Well Drilling Campaign at Trion Field in Ultra-Deep Waters
Woodside Energy and Pemex have launched the drilling campaign at Trion field, located 2,500 meters deep in the Gulf of Mexico. Twenty-four submarine wells are planned, with first oil expected in 2028.

Woodside Energy and Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) have begun drilling operations on Trion field, located in ultra-deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The Deepwater Thalassa drilling vessel, operated by Transocean, arrived in Mexican waters on March 5, 2026. The campaign plans to drill 24 submarine wells, a central step in developing this field discovered by Pemex in 2012.
