Danish manufacturer Vestas has secured an 828 megawatt (MW) order from Brazilian company Casa dos Ventos for the Dom Inocêncio wind project, located in the south-central region of the state of Piauí. The contract covers the delivery of 184 V150-4.5MW turbines and marks a new phase in the partnership between the two companies in Brazil’s wind energy market.
A structuring project for the Brazilian market
According to the partners, construction of the complex is expected to begin in 2026, with final commissioning scheduled for 2028. Vestas will be responsible for supplying the turbines, managing the construction site and delivering 25 years of operation and maintenance services under an Active Output Management 5000 agreement.
The total investment exceeds $1.01bn, making it one of the largest wind projects in the country since 2023. The development is expected to generate enough electricity to power around two million homes, according to the developers.
Industrial impact and local employment
The Dom Inocêncio project is expected to create more than 8,500 direct and indirect jobs during construction and operations. The partners also plan to mobilise local supply chains, with a projected boost to regional industrial activity.
This development comes amid a resurgence of large-scale investment in Brazil’s wind sector, following a slowdown observed since 2023. The order further strengthens Vestas’ position as a key player in the South American market.
Strengthened partnership between the companies
Lucas Araripe, Executive Director of Casa dos Ventos, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership, stating that the project aims to combine technical reliability and long-term performance. He also noted the regional socio-economic impact of the investment.
Eduardo Ricotta, President of Vestas for Latin America, welcomed Casa dos Ventos’ renewed trust, while reaffirming the Brazilian firm’s key role in expanding the country’s wind power capacity.
