The UK Has Just 1.5 Days of Gas Reserves Facing Energy Shocks
With only 6,700 GWh of gas in reserve, the UK has barely 1.5 days of energy independence. Thirty years of failed policy and lack of storage infrastructure investment expose the British economy to international price shocks.

According to data published by National Gas, the operator of the British gas transport network, the UK's gas reserves have fallen to 6,700 gigawatthours (GWh), down from 18,000 GWh the previous year. This level corresponds to barely 1.5 days of national demand. The situation forces the country to source at international market prices for any supply deficit, with no room to absorb price shocks.
