Grid-connected battery energy storage systems will account for a growing share of lithium consumption in 2026. This dynamic stems from the integration of intermittent renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, which require storage capacity to ensure grid stability. Batteries absorb surplus production and release it during peak demand periods. While electric vehicles will remain the largest lithium consumers, the stationary storage segment is posting the fastest growth.
